GIWA Testnet Guide: Add GIWA Sepolia, Get Test ETH and Try the Playground
GIWA is an Ethereum layer 2 from Dunamu, the company behind Upbit, and for now only its testnet, GIWA Sepolia, is live. From GIWA's official documentation: how to add the testnet, where to get test ETH, what the Playground offers, and two things to know first: GIWA says it will not issue its own token, and its testnet terms forbid automated faucet claims.

GIWA is an OP Stack layer 2 on Ethereum producing a block every second. Its testnet is provided by Dunamu, the company that operates Upbit, and its docs describe it as a layer 2 "with Upbit". As of 9 October 2026, GIWA mainnet is still in development; only the GIWA Sepolia testnet is available. GIWA's FAQ says the chain does not plan to issue its own token: its native token is Ethereum's ETH.
GIWA Sepolia network details
| Item | Official docs |
|---|---|
| Network name | GIWA Sepolia |
| Chain ID | 91342 |
| RPC | https://sepolia-rpc.giwa.io (rate-limited, not for production) |
| Flashblocks RPC | https://sepolia-rpc-flashblocks.giwa.io |
| Currency symbol | ETH |
| Block explorer | https://sepolia-explorer.giwa.io |
The easiest way to add it: open the official explorer and use the add-network button at the bottom of the page, which fills MetaMask in for you. If you add it by hand, use only the official values above. GIWA's own wallet is still in development.
Where to get test ETH
| Faucet | Every 24 hours |
|---|---|
| GIWA Faucet (faucet.giwa.io) | Up to 0.005 ETH |
| Nodit Faucet (faucet.lambda256.io/giwa-sepolia) | 0.01 ETH |
Test ETH only pays testnet gas and has no value. A real faucet needs your address only: never your seed phrase, never an approval. General faucet advice is in testnet faucets: how to get test tokens.
What the Playground offers
The GIWA Sepolia Playground (sepolia-playground.giwa.io) turns a few ecosystem features into click-through demos. After connecting a wallet, complete three steps in order; each is a transaction and costs test gas:
- Issue a Dojang: Dojang turns offchain information into an onchain attestation. The Playground uses a test attester called TESTNET FAUCET, and you can revoke the Dojang yourself.
- Claim VerifiedToken: a test token you can claim every 24 hours; its contract address is on GIWA's contracts page.
- Issue a UP ID: a testnet version of Upbit Web3 Names, so you can use username.up.id instead of a long 0x address.
If GIWA Sepolia is not in your wallet yet, the Playground shows an add-network button. When all three are done, the page marks them complete.
Bridging back to Ethereum takes about 7 days
The docs point to Superbridge's native bridge between Ethereum Sepolia and GIWA Sepolia, with the testnet bridge at sepolia-bridge.giwa.io. Deposits are quick, but withdrawals from GIWA to Ethereum pass a challenge period that averages about 7 days, as on other OP Stack layer 2s; see withdrawing from layer 2.
Two things to know first
GIWA says it will not issue its own token
Asked whether GIWA will issue a token, the FAQ says the chain does not plan to, because its native token is layer 1 ETH; fees are paid in ETH, with a planned paymaster to allow stablecoins later. So anything promoting a "GIWA airdrop" or "GIWA token presale" contradicts the official position. GIWA has announced no testnet reward programme.
The terms forbid faucet farming and selling test tokens
GIWA's testnet terms, issued by Dunamu, state that:
- test tokens have no economic value and cannot be exchanged, refunded or cashed out;
- abusing or bypassing faucets, or automated bulk claiming, is prohibited;
- selling test tokens, or tying them to economic value, is prohibited;
- the testnet is independent of Upbit and not linked to any exchange, now or in future;
- the testnet may change, pause, reset or roll back at any time, and balances and history may be lost;
- the operator may collect logs, wallet addresses and IPs to run the service and prevent abuse.
So the testnet suits people who want to learn the chain or practise development. Farming it with many wallets or scripts in hope of an airdrop has no official basis and breaks the terms; it can also look like Sybil behaviour, see what a Sybil address is.
Getting started checklist
- Use a practice-only wallet with no real assets.
- Add GIWA Sepolia (chain ID 91342) from the docs or the official explorer.
- Claim test ETH from the two listed faucets, once every 24 hours.
- Try Dojang, VerifiedToken and UP ID in the Playground.
- Treat any "GIWA event" that charges a fee, asks for your seed phrase or wants approvals on mainnet assets as a scam.
FAQ
How is GIWA related to Upbit?
The docs call GIWA a layer 2 "with Upbit", and the testnet is provided by Upbit's operator Dunamu; the testnet terms also say the service is independent of Upbit and unrelated to crypto trading.
When does GIWA mainnet launch?
The docs only say it is in development, with no date.
The faucet will not pay out. What now?
Check that the wallet is on GIWA Sepolia and that 24 hours have passed since your last claim, then try the other official faucet. Avoid unknown faucets from search results.
