FAQ

Is There a Polymarket Airdrop? What Polymarket Says About a POLY Token

Will Polymarket launch a token, and does trading now earn an airdrop? It is one of the most asked questions about prediction markets, and a favourite hook for fake claim pages. Based on Polymarket's help centre and documentation, this explains the official position on a POLY token, what executives have said, which regions are restricted, and how to spot impersonation.

Is There a Polymarket Airdrop? What Polymarket Says About a POLY Token

What Polymarket officially says

Polymarket's help centre has an article answering whether Polymarket has a token, dated June 24, 2026. Three points:

  • There is no token today. Trading and liquidity rewards are paid in pUSD, which Polymarket describes as its official collateral token, a standard ERC-20 on Polygon backed by USDC. pUSD is not the rumoured POLY.
  • No airdrop or token generation event (TGE) has been announced, and users are told to be wary of scams claiming otherwise.
  • Official news comes from three places only: polymarket.com, @Polymarket on X, and the official Discord (discord.gg/polymarket).

So at the time of writing, any page saying "POLY is claimable" or "connect your wallet to check your POLY allocation" contradicts Polymarket's own position.

What executives have said

According to The Block on October 24, 2025, Polymarket CMO Matthew Modabber said on the Degenz Live podcast: "There will be a token, there will be an airdrop." He added that the team would prioritise the U.S. app, and that "after the U.S. launch, there will be a focus on the token", aiming for a token with real utility and longevity.

That is an interview remark, not campaign rules. Polymarket has not published, through its official channels:

  • a launch or snapshot date;
  • eligibility or how allocations are calculated;
  • total supply or the airdrop share.

Figures such as "5–10% for the airdrop" or "more volume, bigger share" come from third-party speculation.

Reading the two statements together

The help centre says there is no token and no announced plan; the CMO says one is coming. They are not in conflict: one describes the formal status today, the other a direction. For users the rule is simple: until Polymarket publishes rules through its official channels, there is no POLY to claim or reserve.

Do not size your bets on a possible future airdrop either. Every prediction-market position can go to zero, and nobody knows yet whether a future airdrop would cover your region or reward volume. For how points relate to future tokens, see do Web3 points become tokens?

Where Polymarket is restricted

Polymarket's geoblocking page sorts restrictions into several groups, summarised below. The list can change with regulation; check the official page.

RestrictionMeaningCountries and regions (excerpt)
Fully blockedNo new orders and no closing existing positionsIran, Syria, Cuba, North Korea; Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk in Ukraine
Close-only (frontend and API)Existing positions can be closed, no new ones openedUnited States, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Poland, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and others
Close-only (frontend only)The website is close-only; the API is not restrictedJapan, South Korea, Ireland, Netherlands; Malta for sports markets only
Close-only regionsAs aboveBritish Columbia, Ontario, Alberta and Quebec in Canada

The page says the restrictions come from countries sanctioned by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) plus countries added for specific regulatory reasons. Not being on the list does not make use legal where you live; check your local rules on prediction markets, crypto trading and betting first.

Spotting fake POLY claims and fake tokens

  • Trust the three official channels only. Ignore "claim POLY" or "airdrop checker" links in DMs, emails, group chats and search ads.
  • POL is not POLY. Polymarket runs on Polygon, whose native token is POL (formerly MATIC). POL on an exchange is not Polymarket's token.
  • A token named POLY proves nothing. Anyone can deploy a token with that name. Until Polymarket publishes a contract address, no "POLY" can be tied to it.
  • Real claims never need an upfront fee or your seed phrase. Requests to pay an "unlock fee", type your recovery phrase or sign an approval are scams; see how to spot a fake airdrop claim site.

FAQ

What rewards does trading on Polymarket earn now?

According to the help centre, trading and liquidity rewards are currently paid in pUSD. The rules for each programme are on Polymarket's own pages.

Does signing up with a referral code improve airdrop eligibility?

Polymarket has published no airdrop rules, so there is no official basis for that claim. Pages selling referral codes on airdrop eligibility are making promoters' claims.

What about users in the United States?

The main Polymarket site lists the United States as close-only. The U.S. app the CMO mentioned is a separate effort with its own terms.
